wow that must have took a lot of time. Have any lizards died during the process leading to your population number to decrease?

    ReplyDelete
  91. how long did it take you to do all of the lizard positions?

    ReplyDelete
  92. What kinds of animals did you see in the river while dropping the lizards off?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Let me answer the last five questions that have been asked.

Emmanuel- The most painful trip so far was when I wen to catch a lizard and a spine from a catfish skeleton stuck me in the back of the leg. The whole fish skeleton was stuck to me and I had to pull it out. Ouch!

Guillermo- We could probably have fit all 840 lizards in the boat at one time, but we did the deliveries in 3 separate trips. 2 trips on the Matanzas River as we had lizards marked and ready to go because we wanted to minimize the time they spent in the bags. The third trip was to the islands in Tomoka State Park. Then we did make a 4th trip because one of the lizards crawled back into its bag when we tried to let it out, but we didn't realize it until we were already back on the mainland.

Cherish- We only had 4 lizards die in the process of marking and releasing them.

Adolfo- It took about one full day (9 hours or so) to do all of the releases.

Elizabeth- We saw lots of birds(egrets and pelicans especially) and lots of dolphins!
